The wife-and-husband team behind Tensira truly live their label. Designer Tuulia was born in Finland, studied textiles in Paris, worked in fashion at Roger Vivier and JP Todds.  Marketing man Hamidou was born in Guinea, studied in Finland, and Tensira was born in 2010, marrying Nordic design and centuries-old Guinean know-how of weaving and indigo dying. Hamidou’s mother was an indigo dye artist for more 40 years Guinea, and was the first source of inspiration.

I love this heavy cotton table cloth, with bold royal blue and cream stripes equally at home in Helsinki, Kankan, Marseille or Cape Cod. Perfect under homey ceramics and flatware, or over a bed, or for picnicking on the beach.

Tensira’s fabrics are 100% cotton, spun, woven and dyed by hand in proprietary workshops in West Africa. Sustainable production, respect for environment and people, a safe and fair workplace are essential to the couple, who help to ensure regional Craft is passed on from generation to generation.
